Ettringite is a hydrous calcium aluminium sulfate mineral with formula: Ettringite is formed in hydrated Portland cement system as a result of the find ways to immobilize wastes and heavy metals from soils and the env 26 Apr 2018 identified in the lime-treated soil prepared with large aggregates after one supposed to be formed and could be attributed to the creation of 4 Oct 2012 Ground Improvement Techniques by Dr. G.L. The soil–lime reactions involve a large increase in solid volume which causes severe cracking and failure of concrete. Failures in soil stabilization have been reported previously as being due to the formation of ettringite, an expansive mineral which develops in the presence of sulfate, calcium, and aluminum compounds of clay fraction in high pH levels between 10.36 and 14. The tests carried out at the microscopic level showed the formation of calcium silicate hydrates (CSH) and calcium aluminate hydrates (CAH), which are responsible for strength development in the treated soil samples. Further, the ettringite mineral, which induces swelling, was also observed in the treated soils.

Abstract. The use of calcium-based stabilizers such as calcium oxide (lime) in sulfate-bearing clay soils has historically led to structural distress because of the formation of a mineral called ettringite and possibly thaumasite. Extensive laboratory tests were conducted on lime-treated sulfate-rich soils, with and without crystalline silica admixture, to evaluate the improvements in engineering properties, including swell strain, unconfined compressive strength and resilient moduli properties. 科研通是完全免费的文献互助平台,具备全网最快的应助速度,最高的求助完成率。 对每一个文献求助,科研通都将尽心尽力

Further research is needed to assess the effectiveness and the required levels of barium pretreatment in field applications. However, heaving was observed when ettringite was formed inside the lime-treated soil specimen by including ionic reactions. Mineralogical studies including x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope studies were used to evaluate the presence of ettringite. Experimental investigations showed that the ettringite or sulfate-induced heaving was higher in clays than in sands under similar chemistry and environmental conditions. This is attributed to the void sizes of soil types and
The formation of ettringite (3CaO.Al 2O3.3CaSO 4.32H 2O) is favoured by wet conditions at a wide range of ambient temperatures. BRE found this reaction product (Figure 2) on the intended site of a retail store where Lower Lias Clay was lime/cement stabilised in May and in excess of 100mm of ground heave had occurred by September [1].

Swelling in gypseous soil samples is normally associated with absorption of water during ettringite formation ( Hunter, 1988 , Mitchell and Dermatas, 1992 ). The SEM image of uncured lime treated soil containing 4% gypsum sample illustrates the formation of larger quantities and bush like morphology ettringite crystal within the voids/pores (Fig. 12a). Specimen cured for 28 days pronounces the formations of relatively small ettringite crystal within the pores ( Fig. 12 b).
